1. What is Fascia
Fascia is a network of layered connective tissue that surrounds muscles, bones and
joints. I like to refer to it as the body’s “Saran Wrap”. It aids the body in movement and a
crucial communication link between the brain and the muscles for performance.
2. What are the benefits of proper stretching?
- FST
- Decrease Risk of Injury ( Sprains and Strains)
- Decrease or eliminate Back Pain
- Optimize performance of many skilled movements (Sports)
- Reduce Recovery time for athletes
- Increase Body Awareness
- Increase Physical Fitness and improves muscle activation
- Decrease muscle soreness and tension
- Increase balance and symmetry
- Improve Posture
- Promote physical and mental relaxation
3. Can I get FST done before and/or after working out?
The answer is yes to both! Fascial Stretch Therapy utilizes a concept known as the
“Stretch Wave” which dictates the tempo of the stretch. Together, breathing synchronized with
movement into the stretch will create this wave effect. So if the client wanted FST before
working out, the “Stretch Wave” would be at a faster tempo than if you were to stretch after
your workout, where the “Stretch Wave” is at a slower tempo.
4. What is the youngest age at which FST can be done?
If the chid is not emotionally and/or physically mature enough to understand instruction
and is less attentive to comply, than they are probably too young. With that being said, many
school districts across the country are either shortening or completely eliminating their physical
fitness programs. In the other end of the spectrum, an increase number of pre-adolescents and
adolescents are playing only one sport all year round which increases the likelihood of overuse
injuries. Together, the combination of these two scenarios along with pro-longed sitting at
school and poor posture due to overused screen time, these kids could benefit from FST and a
regular Flexibility and Mobility program
5. Can FST be done during Pregnancy?
Absolutely!! During the first trimester there are no restrictions. The second and third
trimesters, there are certain body positioning restrictions but can be easily altered to achieve
maximum benefit to the client |
